چکیده

Noise-induced switching caused by fluctuating atomic coherence is experimentally demonstrated in an atomic optical bistable system consisting of three-level atoms in -type configurations confined in an optical ring cavity. The nonlinear phase as a result of enhanced Kerr nonlinearity induced by atomic coherence in the electromagnetically induced transparency system is fluctuating due to the noise in laser parameters and is primarily responsible for such a switching phenomenon. © 2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 270.2500, 190.1450, 140.4780, 030.1640.

Stochastic resonance in atomic optical bistability

Stochastic resonance SR is experimentally demonstrated in an atomic optical bistable system consisting of three-level atoms in -type configuration confined in an optical ring cavity. The optical bistable system with enhanced Kerr nonlinearity due to atomic coherence is driven by a periodic signal and a Gaussian white noise source with variable amplitude, and displays an improved output signal-t...

Controlling optical bistability in a three-level atomic system

We have experimentally studied the optical bistable behavior in an optical ring cavity filled with a collection of three-level L-type rubidium atoms, interacting with two collinearly propagating laser beams. The bistability so observed is very sensitive to the induced atomic coherence in this electromagnetically induced transparency system or consequently to the altered nonlinearity in the syst...

Optical multistability in three-level atoms inside an optical ring cavity.

Optical multistability in an optical ring cavity filled with a collection of three-level Lambda-type rubidium atoms has been experimentally demonstrated. The observed multistability is very sensitive to the induced atomic coherence in the system and can evolve from a normal bistable behavior with the change of the coupling field as well as the atomic number density. The underlying mechanism for...

Optical bistability in a three-level semiconductor quantum-well system

Optical bistable behavior in a unidirectional ring cavity (or a Fabry–Pérot cavity) containing a semiconductor quantum well, described as a three-level ladder-type system with similar transition energies, has been studied. The system interacts with a strong driving field which is in two-photon resonance with the intersubband transition and thus simultaneously drives all three levels into phase-...

Coupled atomic coherences induced by a standing wave

Atomic coherence effects with a strong standing-wave coupling field on a four-level system of hot Rb atoms are investigated. Amplitude modulation and phase modulation of the strong standing-wave field are coherently coupled in linear and nonlinear atomic polarizations in various multi-wave mixing processes. Such coupled atomic coherence effect leads to one-photon triple-bandpass filters in an e...
